Michael Castro, M.D. FACP
Dr. MICHAEL CASTRO is the founder of Arrowhead Internal Medicine. He is Board Certified Internal Medicine doctor from the American Board of Internal Medicine since 1997 and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Since 1975, only about 35,000 physicians have earned ACP Fellowship, a mark of distinction representing the pinnacle of integrity, professionalism, and scholarship for those who aspire to pursue careers in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Castro is the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency program for Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital/Arizona Heart Hospital. He’s currently working with internal medicine doctors and students while they finish their training. He is an associate professor with Midwestern University and the Guadalajara School of Medicine. He also teaches Nurse Practitioners from ASU, UofA and GCU.
As a tribute to his late father, who was a teacher, Dr. Castro is very committed to the education of the next generation of health care providers. As such, you will see students and trainees of all levels in his office: from Medical Assistants being trained by other MA's to Nurse Practitioners being trained by our other Nurse Practitioners; to medical students and Interns and Residents. Please be aware that under Dr. Castro's care, you will be seen by several physicians in training supervised by Dr. Castro. If you are unsure, please let us know and we can arrange your visit with a different provider.
Dr. Castro currently serves as the Chief of Staff for Abrazo Arrowhead Campus and Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital. He previously served as the vice-Chief of Staff from September of 2012 to August of 2016. He also served as the Medicine Department Chairman from September 1999 to 2003 and again from August 2008 to September 2011. Dr. Castro is a Main Investigator with HOPE Research Institute; he served as a Medical Director for PoPHealthcare and was the Medical Director for the West area for Hospice Inspiris from January 2008 to February 2009.
Dr. Castro graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science Campus in 1994. He finished his residency in 1997 from Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix AZ.
Dr. Castro has been recognized as America’s Top Physician for 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and again for 2014, 2015 and 2016. He has been recognized twice as Top Doc by the Phoenix Magazine.
Srivani Srikantiah, MD
Dr. SRIVANI SRIKANTIAH is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine since 2001.
She obtained her medical degree from Bangalore Medical College, Bangalore, India and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Connecticut, Farmington, CT in 2001. Upon graduation from residency, she joined an Internal Medicine Practice in New Haven, CT. She delivered care to both inpatients and outpatients, and was actively involved in teaching Internal Medicine and Family Practice residents and medical students from Yale University School of Medicine during their rotations through her practice. Dr. Srikantiah has been part of Arrowhead Internal Medicine, PC since February 2011.
She is a member of the American Medical Association.
Elfat Rumman, MD
Dr. ELFAT RUMMAN attended medical school in Syria at the University of Aleppo where she graduated in 2006. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Cornell-affiliated Lincoln Medical Hospital in the Bronx, New York in 2010, after completing an observership in internal medicine and cardiology at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and Texas Heart Institute in Houston.
Dr. Rumman is board certified from the American Board of Internal Medicine since 2013. She’s also a member of the American College of Physicians and the Syrian-American Medical Society.
Dr. Rumman is fluent in both English and Arabic.
Elizabeth S. Sam, MSN-FNP, NP- C, BSN, RN, PCCN, PGDip (Neuronursing)
Elizabeth Sam recently obtained her degree of Master of Nursing with specialty on Family Nurse Practitioner from Grand Canyon University. She has a BSN from Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune, India and a Post Graduate Diploma in Neuro Science Nursing from the Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of National Importance for Medical Sciences and Technology ( SCTIMST), Kerala, India. She also attended the Preceptor Academy from Abrazo Institute.
You might know Elizabeth from her internship in our office where she studied under Dr. Castro. Or perhaps from your stay at Arrowhead Hospital where she was Telemetry nurse in the Cardiac and Neuro area where she received the Arrowhead Hospital Service Excellence Award in 2014 and the Nurse of the Year award in 2011. She also worked in the Cardiac ER and ICU nurse at the Hero DMC Heart and Satluj Trauma center, in the Dayananda Medical College and Hospital in Punjab, India. Elizabeth has participated in several presentations on nursing care for neurological diseases.
Elizabeth is actively engaged in obtaining CEs for PCCN certification. Currently she has over 200 CEs in different areas. PCCN is granted by AACN Certification Corporation and denotes certification in adult progressive care nursing, or how acutely ill patients are cared for.
Elizabeth is a family oriented person and loves travelling to new places and natural resorts. She is an avid reader and enjoys spiritual books.
Serena Roberts, MSN, NP-C, CHFN
Serena Roberts, MSN, NP-C, CHFN graduated from the Northern Arizona University FNP program in 2017. During her NP training she rotated through several different clinical settings, including emergency room and Internal Medicine. Ms. Roberts graduated Magna Cum Laude from ASU where she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
Through her work as an RN, she’s participated in all levels of care throughout the hospital system including OPC/Cath Lab Recovery, Telemetry, ED, PCCU, DTU, Ortho, Med-surg and ICU. She provided direct patient care, supervised as a Team Lead and trained new graduate nurses. She has assisted in bedside procedures (IV placement under ultrasound, CAPD, TEE, cardioversion, etc.). Serena contributed in developing and implementing a successful
5 hospital network heart failure program to provide inpatient and outpatient support, reduce readmission rates, comply with best practice guidelines and obtained accreditation through the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. She was instrumental in developing a patient tracking database to support readmission risk, standards for utilizing depression screening tools, heart failure specific order sets, and teaching tools for patients. She participated in rebuilding the Mended Hearts support group and obtained grant funding to support program.
Ms. Roberts is an accomplished publisher, speaker and a Daisy Award Nominee.
When not working at the Arrowhead Internal Medicine’s main office, Serena runs our nursing home service at Royal Oaks Lifecare Community.
